The press was out in force

The MED MAX I Occitanie - Saïdia Resorts press conference was held on Thursday 27 September in the clubhouse of the Société Nautique Grau-du-Roi Port Camargue. It was an opportunity to present the major players in this event to the many media - radio, TV, web and press - in the presence of the skippers and co-skippers.
After an introduction by co-organisers Kito de Pavant and Christophe Carniel, the institutional partners reiterated their investment in the project. Patrice Canayer, regional councillor, representing the president of the Occitanie region, Carole Delga, stressed the importance for this region, which is bordered by the sea, of supporting such major sporting challenges.
The officials from the Moroccan delegation, Rachid Rami, Head of the Economic Development and Territorial Offer Division, Alae-Eddine Barkaoui, Vice-President of the Oriental Regional Council, in charge of investment, and Kirmane Hassani, Communications Director, representing Jalil Bennis, Managing Director of the Société d'investissement de Saïdia, expressed their pride at having been the driving force behind this project, praising the charms of their region and promising the skippers a warm welcome. "It's a Moroccan-style event, very festive, with lots of atmosphere, to encourage you to come and visit us sooner!.

The Gard département and Gard tourisme were also quick to list the qualities of the département, between the Cévennes, the Camargue and the Mediterranean. Laurence Barduc-Fauquet, representing the President of the Gard Pascale Fortunet-Deschamps, and Françoise Lautrec, representing the Mayor of Le Grau-du-Roi, Robert Crauste, thrilled the audience with tales of their Ocean Fifty voyages the day before. An enthusiastic and colourful account directed at all the skippers, thanking them for making dreams come true.

Guillaume Rottée, the race director, presented the starting line-up for the race on Sunday 29 September, as well as the fleet's route to the Sète buoy, before the big leap out to sea.

Finally, representatives of the two series, Class40 and Ocean Fifty, took part in a new innovation devised by Kito de Pavant: Mikael Mergui, member of the Class40 board of directors and skipper of "Centrakor", gave his opinion on the 50-foot trimarans, while Thibaut Vauchel-Camus, skipper of "Solidaires en Peloton" and president of the Ocean Fifty class, did the same with the 40-foot monohulls. An original exercise before the series of interviews with the other skippers by the media present.
