A first. This is the first time that CROSS Méditerranée has been involved in a sailing race in the Mediterranean.
"We're delighted to be involved in the Med Max, as there aren't many ocean races in the Mediterranean that go so far offshore, smiles Claire Lozachmeur, head of the rescue operation, who has come from her base in La Garde, in the Var, with Magali Fargat, watch leader and Anaïs Dijoux, assistant watch leader. She will be speaking at the safety briefing for all the skippers in the race on Wednesday evening. "We're here to remind people of CROSSMED's role in warning and rescue systems, says Claire Lozachmeur. We explain to them what happens when they press the button. The fact that they're all experienced skippers and seasoned sailors makes things easier for us. But we also have to be careful that they don't get overconfident.
The CROSSMED remains in contact 24/7 with the other MRCCs (Maritim Rescue Coordination Centers) of the Mediterranean. The race management has advised them of the arrival of the fleet. The CROSSMED rcan count on all its partners: the SNSM (and its forty local stations), as well as the French Navy, the Sécurité Civile and the French Air Force for offshore operations. Skippers will cast off with their mind at peace.Note: CROSS stands for Center of Regional Operations of Surveillance and rescue, ruled by the French Maritimes Affairs. SNSM is the National Society of Marine Rescue, an NGO gathering 11,000 volunteers performing 55% of the rescue mission on and off shore.
